Make-Up Assignments For Quarantined Students
This is the image for the news article titled Make-Up Assignments For Quarantined StudentsDear Parents,

I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation during the reopening of Gleason School. The community support shown for our teachers and staff embodies the true Bulldog spirit, and we are thankful for the opportunity to serve your children.

When quarantine/isolation situations occur, we understand the major disruption this causes to your child’s academic progress. We would like to announce a process to streamline the flow of assignments if a child cannot be at school due to quarantine/isolation.

*Option 1: If your teacher(s) are already communicating assignments to your child digitally, they will continue to do so in an absentee situation. All of our grades 6-12 staff is in the process of establishing Google Classroom. We are waiting for machines to arrive and for school-provided student email accounts to be linked in order to make it fully operational. Once fully operational, all assignments in grades 6-12 will be communicated via this platform in the event of a Covid related absence or school closure. All assignments in grades K-5 will continue to be sent via paper-based options.

*Option 2: There will be items that your teacher(s) need to provide in a paper-based format. To streamline this process, we will go by the following schedule:

A. Each Monday, we will offer a pick-up/drop off option of student assignments through the front door of the school in the morning and afternoon. The morning pick-up time will be from 6:45 A.M. – 7:45 A.M. and the afternoon pick-up time will be 3:00-4:00 P.M. Parents, relatives, etc. may ring the front door bell and request the work. Our teachers have a central organized drop point so that we can easily access what your child needs. We will bring the work to you at the door so that you will not have to sign-in and follow PPE guidelines.

B. If we are out of school on a Monday due to a holiday, the pick-up date will be moved to Tuesday.

C. We ask that you follow the “Monday only” times because we will have limited staff designated to assist you. Our intention is to have work ready from the previous week “if missed,” as well as, work for the new upcoming week.

D. This process is only for children in quarantine/isolation. If a child is absent for any other reason, they will receive make-up work upon return. If your child is going to miss more than 3 days for a reason other than quarantine/isolation, please contact the school office and we will work with you to establish a return date and coordinate assignments with your teacher(s). This should be a rare occurrence.

E. We encourage all students who have to miss school to take advantage of online resources. Our school purchases the IXL program for all grades 1-12 math and 1-5 RLA. There are some other limited areas where teachers use IXL in junior high/high school. All 6-12 students have access to the Study Island platform for the subjects of Reading/Language, Math, Science and Social Studies. A free resource online that offers tutorials and practice across all grade levels and subjects is Khan Academy. YouTube videos are also a great tool to use when searching for more specific step-by-step guidance on a particular skill.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office or your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,

Lee Lawrence
Principal
Gleason School
